Center for Contemplative Arts - Current Offerings

Spiritual Writing
Instructor:   Gail Balden is a writer, educator and workshop presenter with over 30 years of teaching experience. Her work has been published in anthologies, literary journals and national magazines. When:      Saturday, October 17, 2009, 9 am to 3 pm - Tell Me a Story.  (Last class of 2009.) How did you get to be the person that you are?  How have you coped with pain and loss? What are your hopes and dreams? Tell me the story of how you got to where you are from where you were. Make sense of life through the practice of story. Do it for yourself, do it for your family, do it for the world.

Tuition:   $60 per class (Open to men and women). Class size is limited so register early.

Description: These classes are packed full of good advice, writing exercises and inspiration and are designed for those who are drawn to self-expression and the telling of their stories. No previous writing experience is necessary. Art & Meditation for Women
Instructor: Jan Tarr, Artist and Spiritual Director.

When:   Each Friday for six weeks
              beginning October 16 and ending November 20, 2009
              9:00 am to 12:30 pm

Tuition:   $20 for six weeks (includes all supplies)

Description:  Jan will facilitate a series of six quiet mornings of meditation, reflection, and silent painting. The paintings will be your private response to the reading and meditation. Neither experience with meditation nor painting is necessary. Writing with Jessica Page Morrell - Show, Don't Tell

Description: "Show, don't tell" is advice directed at writers so often that it seems it has been signed into law. But, how do we apply this rule to fiction, literary nonfiction and journalism? This fast-paced class features discussion, examples, writing exercises, and generous handouts to clarify how "show, don't tell" works in your writing. Creative Thriving: Soul Abundance in Challenging Times
Instructor: Dana Lynne Andersen, is an accomplished international artist, writer, teach, and founder of Awakening Arts Institute and Global Artists Network. Dana has taught her unique programs in creativity at art centers, international conferences, and through her Awakening Arts Studio Retreat Center in California. Description: Discover your dreams, nourish your soul, live vibrantly. Using guided visualization, movement, "soul drawing" with chalk and oil pastel, collage and playfulness, we will awaken to our own inner abundance. Dana is a joyful, wise, and experienced facilitator who has awakened hundreds to the ecstasy of creativity. This class will be a hands-on experience of true self expression as Dana teaches her own creative practices for soul and spirit which can open the floodgates of artistic inspiration in each of us. SoulCollage for Women:   Dancing with Our Personal Ghosts
Instructor:   Kathryn King, MSW, brings her love of SoulCollage back to Manzanita! The week surrounding Halloween is the perfect time to allow ourselves the chance to recognize, name, and make peace with our own inner ghosts and goblins. Kathryn is a very supportive facilitator, having taught lots of soulcollage classes in the Portland/Vancouver area and also having worked with people in her private counseling practice for over 22 years. Join with other like-hearted women as we share our inner lives with each other. You will go home with several soulcollage cards of your own and with the memory of a special day of connecting to yourself and others. Description:   Soulcollage is a wonderful process of working with images in such a way that we can each tap into our inner wisdom. Developed by Seena Frost (www.soulcollage.com). it takes no artistic training or experience and yet each card made is a work of art. Kathryn trained in CA directly with Seena and uses soulcollage in her personal life and in her work as a clinical social worker in private practice. All materials are supplied but bring favorite scissors if you have them.
